Many live shows, like our Tropical Punch, Rhett and Link’s live show, and tech king Chris Pirillo, use the wyldryde.org free chatroom. Using the wyldryde chatroom allows for viewers to quickly choose a username and begin chatting, without having to go through the hassle of registering an account at BlogTV or Ustream.
However, as the admin of your wyldryde chatroom channel, you may find yourself a bit limited in moderating your chatroom. This tutorial shows you how to connect to your chatroom using an IRC program.
“IRC” is the format of chat that is being used by wyldryde. An IRC program facilitates modding in a couple of ways: i. they allow admins to save entire chatroom chats and they facilitate kicking/banning. You may also view the chatroom in full screen, instead of being restricted to the small chatroom that is embeded in a webpage.
Here are the steps:
1. Download and install this free Xchat-2 IRC program:

2. Run it. (like, wow)
3. Under User Information, fill out “Nickname” with the registered Nickname you use during in your chatroom.You must also fill out the “User Name” and the Real Name option.
4. Under Networks, click the “ADD” button and name the new network “My WyldRyde channel” or something along that line.
5. Select the new network you made, and click the EDIT button.
6. Fill out the next form like this:
- Under “Servers” click the newserver/6667 and then click the edit button. Rename the newserver/6667 as irc.wyldryde.org
- Check the option “Connect to selected server only”
- Under the setting “Channels to join” type in #nameofchannel only replace nameofchannel with the name of your channel, and don’t forget to include # symbol. For example, my channel is called TropicalPunch, so I typed in #tropicalpunch.
- Under Nickserv password type in the password you use with your registered username.
- Click close
7. Now select the new channel you just edited from the list of available networks, and click the Connect button. This will log you in, with all your admin privleges. Everything that people type into the embedded wyldryde chatroom, will show up immediately in your xchat program.
Also, some tips as to how to use the program:
- Once you are logged into the chat in Xchat, click the toolbar option “VIEW” and select the checkbox “Userlist buttons”. This made 6 buttons show up beneath the user list. This means that all you have to is click on a username and then click the appropriate button to kick or ban that user. You may also right-click one of the usernames in the userlist to begin a dialoge (private chat) with that user.
- If you want to save all the text of the chat, click the toolbar option “WINDOW” and then “Save Text”.
- If you’d like to change colors, click SETTINGS then “Preferences”. Also installed with xChat was a theme selector, so you can choose a certain theme pattern.
