A lot of cameras will film clips in Quicktime’s MOV format and it’s an annoying format when you want to edit those clips. Here’s a small outline that will allow you to convert your Quicktime MOV files to AVI files, which can then be edited, or further converted into an MP3 file.

  1. First, use RAD Video Tools to convert the MOV to a clean AVI. Here’s a post with a great tutorial that will walk you through everything.
  2. This will produce an AVI file, which you can edit with Windows Movie Maker if you like.
  3. Optional: to extract the audio from an AVI file and save the audio as an MP3, you’ll need to use the slick Switch Sound File Converter. (Note: on install when it asks you to select related programs to install, leave all of them unselected and click Finish.) It does a great, free job of AVI to MP3 conversion.

Good luck!
