WOW! Our hub or modem got blown up in an electrical storm. Our computers were out for about a week and I’m still alive.

Nooooo! Don’t jump! Listen, all you have to do is call tech support and spend the day on the phone being guided through meaningless patches, repairs and reboots until finally the internet comes back up in its own mysterious time. And you’ll have lots of lovely elevator muzak to listen to while you wait.
Then again, if you have no land line and your cell phone is down…maybe you should just go ahead and jump now.
